Homemade Applesauce
Ingredients
- 6 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into eighths
- 1 cup apple juice or apple cider
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (adjust to taste)
- Optional: Nutmeg, maple syrup, allspice, butter, to taste
Directions
- Combine Ingredients:
- Place all ingredients in a large pot over medium heat. Stir occasionally and cover, allowing the mixture to cook for about 25 minutes, until the apples are tender.
- Puree the Apples:
- For smooth applesauce, carefully transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor in batches (do not overfill while hot). Blend until you reach your desired consistency.
- For a chunkier texture, use a potato masher to break down the apples by hand.
- Store and Serve:
- Transfer the applesauce to jars or containers and store in the fridge.
- Serve warm or chilled, as a standalone treat, or pair with pork chops, pancakes, or vanilla ice cream.
