At the beginning of April, Rosemont owner John Naylor and CEO Mark Law traveled to the northern mountains of Italy with our friends at Roger’s Collection, in search of new Piedmontese cheese, nut, and chocolate producers. As you might expect, they also carved out time to taste some truly exceptional wines. Among the many memorable moments, one standout day was spent high on a hillside of the Langhe, dining in the home kitchen of winemaker Marco Tintero. It was one of those long, lingering meals where the food is rich, the stories are generous, and the wine keeps flowing.

Mark shared a few notes from the experience, including their visit to the Tintero vineyards and a closer look at the wines that continue to inspire us.

The drive to Mango is not for the faint of heart. It’s a white-knuckle journey up narrow, vineyard-lined roads that twist through the hills of southern Piemonte. But once you arrive at the crest, where the town of Mango overlooks the Langhe, it becomes clear why this place has captured the attention of winemakers and wine lovers alike. Here you’ll find the vineyards of Elvio Tintero and the hands of current winemaker Marco Tintero tending to them. The work is humble, the wines are honest, and the welcome is warm.

Over a long lunch filled with bowls of Tajarin (the egg yolk-rich pasta so deeply rooted in Piemontese tradition), and meltingly tender Stinco di Maiale (braised pork shanks), we tasted through Marco’s line of wines. Each bottle was a love letter to the region—bright, expressive, and endlessly drinkable. Tintero is where we turn when we want wines that feel like home, even if that home is halfway up a hill in Piemonte.

Tintero Arneis – While savoring a crisp Insalata Bergera—a local salad of celery, walnuts, black truffle, and rich Toma cheese, dressed simply in olive oil—Marco poured his straw-colored Arneis. With floral notes, a touch of pear, and a cool minerality, this is the bottle you’ll reach for all summer long. It’s refreshing, vibrant, and endlessly versatile.

Tintero Rosato – A staple in the Rosemont repertoire. A blend of Arneis, Moscato, and Barbera, this lightly frizzante rosé is fun, fresh, and just plain easy to love. Marco somehow makes a wine that’s both playful and pitch-perfect—equal parts sunset sipper and porch-pounder. You’ll find me on my patio with this bottle most evenings this Summer.
Our markets have a very limited stock of this wine, but a fresh drop is coming in June!

Tintero Nebbiolo – If you’ve ever doubted that a truly satisfying bottle of Nebbiolo could be affordable, this one’s for you. Juicy, elegant, and structured just enough, it’s a weeknight wine with a weekend soul. You’ll never be happier to part with twenty bucks.

I’m grateful to be bringing a little Langhe back to Portland. We hope these wines find their way to your table and bring as much joy as they did to ours.

Cheers to good food and great wine,
Mark
