Six markets, six of Maine’s favorite places, and everything you need in between.
Visiting Maine this summer? Lucky you. Between the lighthouses, the beaches, the islands, and the music, there’s a lot of ground to cover, and all of it is better with good food along for the ride.
Here’s a little secret the locals already know: wherever you’re headed around Portland, there’s a Rosemont market on the way. We’re a neighborhood grocer with six locations, each one stocked with fresh bread from our bakery, sandwiches made that morning, Maine-made cheese, just picked fruit, and cold drinks ready for the cooler. Pull in, fill a bag, and get back to your day.
Here’s how we’d pair our markets with the places you’re already planning to visit.
Cape Elizabeth: Portland Head Light
Lighthouse views deserve a good picnic. Before you head to Fort Williams Park, stop at our Cape Elizabeth market on Route 77. Grab sandwiches, a wedge of Maine-made cheese, a fresh baguette, and something cold to drink, then claim a spot on the grass with the most photographed lighthouse in America in front of you.
Bring: a blanket, sunscreen, and a Rosemont tote full of lunch. There’s plenty of open lawn, so no table required.
Brighton Ave: Thompson’s Point Concerts
Show at Thompson’s Point tonight? Swing by our Brighton Ave market first. It’s just up the road, and it’s the easiest pre-show stop in Portland. The venue lets you bring in food in a small soft-sided cooler, plus one sealed bottle of water per person, so pack it smart: sandwiches, cheese and crackers, fruit, and a few sweets from our bakery all fit the bill. And grab a bottle of wine or some Maine beer while you’re here to enjoy back at the Airbnb after the encore.
Bring: your ticket, a light layer for when the sun goes down over the Fore River, a small soft-sided cooler packed with snacks, and a sealed water bottle for each person in your group.
West End: Old Port Wandering
Cobblestones work up an appetite. After a morning of poking around the Old Port’s shops and wharves, our West End market is a short walk uphill through one of Portland’s prettiest neighborhoods. Fresh bread, made-to-order lunch, and pastries from our bakery are waiting when you get there.
Bring: comfortable shoes and an appetite. The walk up is worth it, and the walk back down is easy.
Scarborough: Higgins Beach, Pine Point, and Scarborough Beach
Beach day? Our Scarborough market has everything for the cooler, from just picked fruit and cold drinks to sandwiches made that morning. Stock up on your way to Higgins, Pine Point, or Scarborough Beach and skip the long lines at the snack shack.
Bring: a cooler with ice, plenty of water, and more snacks than you think you need. Salt air makes everyone hungry.
Falmouth: Mackworth Island
Walking the Mackworth Island trail? Our Falmouth market is right on Route 1, directly on your way. It’s the perfect stop for trail snacks before your loop around the island, or a well-earned lunch after. The whole trail is about a mile and a quarter, gentle enough for kids and grandparents alike, with views of Casco Bay the entire way.
Bring: walking shoes, water, and a pastry for the drive. You’ll thank us.
Yarmouth: Royal River Park and the Clam Festival
Exploring Royal River Park? Our Yarmouth market is minutes away with cold drinks and picnic fixings for a shady lunch by the falls. And if you’re here the weekend of July 17 to 19, you’re in for a treat: the Yarmouth Clam Festival takes over Main Street with a parade, fireworks, live music, and every kind of clam you can imagine, all in support of local nonprofits. Stop by our market before or after for breakfast, snacks between events, or provisions for the rest of your trip.
Bring: cash for the festival food booths, a picnic blanket for the park, and room in the car for whatever Maine-made goods follow you home.
One Stop, Everything You Need
Every Rosemont market is stocked for exactly this kind of day: bread baked fresh in our own bakery, Rosemont-made sandwiches and prepared meals, cheese and meats picked by our buyers, produce from Maine farms we’ve worked with for years, and shelves full of Maine-made goods that make great gifts (or great souvenirs for yourself).
So wherever your Maine adventure takes you this summer, swing by first. We’ll make sure you leave with everything you need and maybe a recommendation or two from behind the counter. That’s what neighbors are for, even the ones just visiting.
