Rosemont Market & Bakery is the proud recipient of the Neighbor of the Year award from The My Place Teen Center in Westbrook. MPTC is an incredible free, year-round organization with a mission “to provide a safe haven for youth, ages 10 – 18, sustaining them with comfort, meals, resources and hope.” Their goal being, “all youth will have the academic, job readiness, and life skills necessary to lead independent adult lives filled with stewardship, courage, passion and joy.” It’s clear why, here at Rosemont, we are so passionate about supporting their programming in any way we can.
This year, our Kitchen Manager, Cecelia Bye, worked closely with the teen center’s youth culinary program instructor Christian Kryger to arrange for the donation and delivery of produce, bread and prepared meals. Christian, along with all the staff at MPTC, created a Restaurant Job Training Program that helps ready their teen participants with real–world experience in the culinary field. They train as “cooks, servers, bussers, hosts, hostesses, and dishwashers in a restaurant-like environment, preparing meals in the teaching kitchen, and serving meals to their fellow teens in MPTC’s dining room.”
This past winter, Rosemont’s new Charitable Giving coordinator, Holly Martzial, organized a company-wide decision to narrow our community support to three local partners, The Locker Project, Lyman Moore Middle School and The My Place Teen Center. Rosemont Market is committed to supporting non-profit organizations with a shared mission of providing nourishing food to local children experiencing food scarcity. We do this through redistributing products from our kitchen to local organizations who place food directly into the hands of our community’s youth.
While most of our donations are produce and prepared meals, we also rely on our community funded initiatives. In an effort to offer Rosemont customers the opportunity to support the missions of our community partners, we offer premade snacks and meals for purchase via our website and in our stores. Our current community funded initiative works to support the work of The Locker Project, who work tirelessly to ensure food security for children by providing healthy snacks and meals to families. We are currently offering a $10 snack pack available for purchase both on-line and in our markets. For each purchase, Rosemont Market will make and deliver a fresh snack pack to The Locker Project, who will pass the packages on to food insecure families in our community.
